Car Donation Maryland

Donating a car to a local charity means you’ll be doing more for your own community, and your donation is more likely to go to what is primarily a charity, not a large car donation processing company (not that they’re all bad… they’re just in the business of business, not the business of charity).

These charities all have 503(c)(3) federal status, which means qualifying donations to these organizations count for a tax deduction. Of course, you’ll need to check with your tax preparer to be sure donating a car really benefits you (you’ll have to do the long-form for tax deductions, not just take the standard lump-sum deduction), but there are also other articles on this site that can help you determine if donating a car is in your financial best interest.

All these charities have also earned 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator, which is pretty widely considered the benchmark charity reviewer these days. With a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator, you don’t have to worry for a second that your donation will be wasted on expensive company parties, or to overpaying a Charity’s President or anything. These charities are squeaky-clean.

Fisher House Foundation
Rockville, Maryland | (833) 866-7869

This widely-venerated charity provides temporary housing near VA and military medical centers for injured vets and their families. These stays for specialized care can go on for months, and being able to keep families together through the treatments has proved extremely beneficial. Fisher House has a lot of other smaller support programs for vets, but they are best known for their “comfort homes”. They accept cars and just about any other kind of vehicle, whether it is running or not through the V-DAC program car donation processing company. They can even take your unused Frequent Flier Miles and put them to very good use.

Jewish Social Service Agency
Rockville, Maryland | (833) 866-7869

With a signed title to your car and a set of keys, you can call this charity and then just wait for them to send a tow truck over to pick your vehicle up. Do note that JSSA’s web page only mentions accepting cars, and they have not specified if they accept “junk cars” or cars that aren’t running. Call the number above to see what the status is there. JSSA has a broad spectrum of programs for people of any age — they help people prepare themselves for job searches, help parents with parenting skills, children with social anxieties, and provide seniors with activities. They also have hospice care facilities to support.

Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake
Baltimore, Maryland | (833) 866-7869

This is a local chapter of the international Habitat for Humanity, which runs the Cars for Homes program. Habitat for Humanity helps people build or repair their own homes. Their goal is to not give handouts but put a hammer in people’s hands and work alongside them until the house is complete.

Pulmonary Hypertension Association
Silver Spring, Maryland | (833) 866-7869

PHA works through the car donation processing company CARS (Charitable Charitable Auto Resources, Inc.) to handle their car donations. They also accept trucks, RVs, boats, motorcycles, or other vehicles, and offer free towing/pick up across the entire United State.
