Donate a Car in Illinois

The following charities all accept donated vehicles or gifts in kind (gifts of goods and services, or tangible personal property). They are also all qualified with IRS 501(c)(3) status, so any donation to them that meets the other IRS requirements is deductible. Most importantly, they have all received top, four-star ratings from the charity evaluator, Charity Navigator, so you don’t have to doubt them for a second — they have all met the most stringent requirements for effectiveness and financial responsibility.

Provides services, jobs, and housing for the homeless or at-risk individuals. Accepts gifts in kind but does not have a dedicated car donation program. Still, worth a call because if you can find a charity that will use your car instead of just turning around and selling it (which is what 90% of charities do), then you can declare the “fair market value” of the car for a tax deduction, instead of about 70% of the fair market value, which is typically what donated cars sell for.

This is another local chapter of a national organization that has a vehicle donation program. They accept most vehicles. To get started you fill out a form on the website, then wait a day or two for them to call you to get some information about your car. A day or so later, a tow truck will come to collect your donation, and about a month or so after that, you will the IRS documents outlining your donation.
